Full House/Empty Life

Allow me to do you a favor when I die; and that favor is, there will be nothing to sort out, divide, sell, throw away, or fight over. You may have heard about the people found in southern Chicago literally buried under “trash.” Buried is not an exaggeration of the truth, however they were not dead. Yet they were buried under a mountain of trash and “stuff.” Continue reading if you want my take on the reason why people do this. Most of you know that I’m not a doctor of medicine or psychology, but I think I can summarize this condition, among other conditions like OCD, and other forms of paranoia and phobias. Are you ready for this? Drum roll please…

PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!!! Ta Dah!!!

You now have my diagnosis on mankind as we know it. But I hear the groans of skepticism so I will elaborate more about my brilliant observation.
At the core of every person is a flaw. No one person’s flaw is bigger than another, it’s just that some of them are far more obvious to the masses. What is the flaw you ask? It is the fact that we believe lies. At the core of our being we are ALL susceptible to believing lies. We say we want the truth. We claim to seek the truth. We even demand the truth at times, but the sordid truth, the horrible truth, the absolute truth is, (often) we make agreements with the father of lies. (I believe) at the core of most mental conditions, and other types of paranoia, and phobias, we have chosen to believe a lie. Now do not allow me and my narrow minded ideas offend you. I know there are some conditions that are generated through genetics and mental deficiencies, such as my own “narrow-minded opinionated” personality. But let’s forget about those for the moment. I’m talking about the people in Chicago who would not throw anything away, including the stinkin’ garbage! How do you explain it except for the fact that they believe somewhere down deep inside their heart and mind, that this life is all they have. These “things” are all they get, including the garbage! So they don’t want to throw any of it away, because it’s theirs and they believe they may never get it back. It sounds ridiculous, but what other reason could anyone come up with?

The saddest part is not that they end up on the news buried under 3 tons of stuff that’s not even garage-sale-worthy. The saddest part is that they really do think that this is all they have. You and I were never meant to live our lives in a way where we save everything because we are desperate to hold onto the here and now. Quite the contrary. Life is short. We have only a short time to live, love, be loved, and to make a difference in people’s lives. You and I cannot sell ourselves short by surrounding ourselves with life’s “things.” If we do, we will soon find ourselves not only saving valuables but garbage as well. Not because we want garbage, but because we have lost sight of what we wanted in the first place. We want life. We want more of it. I don’t want more life, I want to share more of it. I don’t want to wall myself inside a fortress of refuse.

Don’t throw away your energy saving what you can’t keep. Share your things. Give away some of your possessions. Share your time with someone else, even if it’s a stranger. You may make a friend, build a relationship, or even find that your time was the most valuable thing you had. I know I will die empty-handed, but my heart will be completely full
